A video showing a physical altercation between a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer and a driver in Edo State has gone viral, triggering widespread outrage online and prompting the agency to launch an immediate investigation.
The footage, which circulated on X (formerly Twitter) over the weekend, shows the confrontation unfolding during a traffic stop along Abudu.
Tensions quickly escalated, with both the officer and the driver engaging in a physical struggle, drawing criticism from passersby and social media users who condemned the incident as unprofessional and unacceptable.
In response, the FRSC described the video as “disturbing” in a statement signed by its Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide.
The statement confirmed that Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed had ordered a full investigation to determine the circumstances behind the clash.
“The attention of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has been drawn to a viral video circulating on social media showing an altercation between some FRSC officers and a driver along Abudu, Edo State, Nigeria, on Saturday, 25th October, 2025,” the statement read.
Ogungbemide quoted the Corps Marshal as expressing serious concern over the incident, stressing that the FRSC does not tolerate any unprofessional conduct that undermines its integrity and discipline. He added that disciplinary action will be taken against any officer found guilty, in line with the Corps’ operational guidelines and public service regulations.
The FRSC also urged motorists nationwide to remain calm and cooperate with officers while they carry out their duties. The statement concluded: “While the FRSC remains steadfast in its mission to promote road safety and maintain order, the Corps Marshal will not tolerate any form of assault or violence against its personnel during the discharge of their lawful duties.”
