At least one person has been killed and several others are currently missing in fresh attacks by suspected armed herdsmen in the Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to local sources, the incident occurred in Tsekar village, a rural community in the Ukohol area of Nyiev Council Ward.
The attackers reportedly stormed the village unexpectedly, causing trouble and panic among residents.
During the invasion, a resident identified as Mr. Tyough William was killed, adding to the growing list of casualties from clashes between herders and farming communities in the region.
In a related incident, another set of herdsmen allegedly laid an ambush for Tiv travellers along the Yogbo-Gungu Aze road. The victims were travelling from Yogbo to Ortese when the attack took place.
Eyewitnesses and relatives said some people smartly managed to escape, but one traveller, Mr. Udam Dogo, has not been seen or heard from since the attack.
Family members raised concerns for Mr. Dogo’s safety after they called his phone and an unfamiliar voice, believed to be one of the attackers, answered the call. This has heightened fears that he may have been abducted or killed.
As of the time of this report, the total number of missing or injured victims had not been officially confirmed by authorities.
The spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, said she had not yet received any formal report of the incident and could not assertain the details.
