“Football Won’t Last Forever”: Victor Osimhen Outlines Plans to Earn University Degree

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed his intentions to go back to school and earn a university degree, stressing the importance of preparing for life after sports.

The Galatasaray forward and 2023 African Footballer of the Year noted that while life has taught him invaluable lessons, a professional sports career is ultimately short-lived.

“It will be an amazing thing to also try to get a degree, which I’m still considering because football is not something you will play for so long,” Osimhen said. “Probably 20 or 25 years, and then you’re done.”

Osimhen, who rose from humble beginnings to the elite ranks of European football, hopes his academic ambitions will inspire young people who were forced to drop out due to financial or personal hardships.

“It’s to set an example to the younger generation that even though you dropped out due to challenges, you can always go back to school,” he added.

The Nigerian vice-captain has long championed education for young athletes.

In February 2026, he donated ₦10 million to the Beyond Limits Football Academy in Ogun State, urging its young players to balance their athletic talents with academic dedication to ensure long-term stability after retirement.
