FIFA Introduces New Executive Training Programmes for Club Leaders and Players

FIFA has announced new editions of two major professional development programmes aimed at strengthening leadership, management and administrative skills within the global football industry.

The football governing body confirmed the fourth edition of the FIFA Diploma in Club Management and the second edition of the FIFA Players Executive Programme.

Both programmes are scheduled to begin in November 2026 and run until April 2028, lasting 18 months.

The initiatives are designed to bring together club executives, professional players, former players and coaches, giving participants the opportunity to develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to take on greater leadership responsibilities within football.

Participants will undertake online learning, while also having opportunities to attend optional physical sessions, visit football clubs and gain behind-the-scenes experience from clubs across different parts of the world.

According to FIFA’s Director of Professional Football Relations and Development, Ornella Désirée Bellia, the programmes underline FIFA’s commitment to investing in the people who contribute significantly to the development and professionalisation of the sport.

Bellia said the programmes would create an environment where participants could share knowledge, learn from one another and acquire skills that could support their careers both within and beyond the football pitch.

The FIFA Diploma in Club Management is primarily targeted at club executives, as well as former international players and coaches who have moved into managerial and administrative roles.

The programme focuses on six major areas: leadership and management; governance and legal matters; finance; marketing and communication; club operations and stadium management; and sporting strategy and youth academies.

Graduates and their respective clubs will also become part of the FIFA Club Management Network, allowing them to maintain professional connections and exchange ideas, experiences and best practices with football administrators around the world.

Meanwhile, the FIFA Players Executive Programme is designed specifically for active and retired professional players and coaches who are interested in transitioning into leadership, management and executive roles within football.

Its curriculum covers five key areas, including football management, physical and mental well-being, financial planning, personal branding and communication, and philanthropy.

FIFA Deputy Chief Member Associations Officer Gelson Fernandes stressed that the continued growth of football requires strong leadership at club level and greater participation from former players in the administration and management of the sport.

Fernandes noted that players possess valuable experience, knowledge and perspectives that can contribute significantly to football after their playing careers have ended.

He encouraged the football industry to create more opportunities for former players to remain involved in the game, particularly in executive and administrative positions.

FIFA said the programmes have already established a diverse global alumni community, with previous participants representing 57 nationalities, 155 clubs and 55 countries.

All six FIFA confederations have also been represented among participants.
With the latest editions set to commence in November 2026, FIFA said the programmes would continue its broader efforts to develop capable football administrators, strengthen club management and help players and coaches prepare for influential careers beyond the pitch.

The initiative is expected to contribute to the continued professionalisation of football by equipping current and future leaders with the managerial, financial, strategic and administrative skills required to operate successfully in the modern game.
