FG Pushes Equipment Leasing to Empower Young Agripreneurs

The Federal Government has highlighted equipment leasing as a practical solution for boosting agricultural productivity, improving food security, and supporting young Nigerians in agribusiness.

Speaking at the fifth Agriculture, Youth and Technology Nigeria (AYuTe) Challenge, the Equipment Leasing Registration Authority (ELRA) said limited access to modern equipment remains a major obstacle for many young entrepreneurs.

The agency noted that leasing enables farmers and business owners to access tractors, irrigation systems, and processing equipment without making large upfront investments.

ELRA’s Chief Executive Officer, Donald Wokoma, said the agency plans to strengthen its partnership with Heifer International Nigeria through a Youth Enterprise Leasing Initiative.

The programme is designed to connect young entrepreneurs with leasing firms, financial institutions, and equipment suppliers to improve access to productive assets.

The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Aliyu Abdullahi, reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting young farmers and innovators.

He urged them to embrace technologies such as artificial intelligence, drone technology, and precision farming to modernise agriculture and increase output.

At the event, Kelechi Oleka, founder of Kyoko Foods Limited, won the 2026 AYuTe Nigeria Challenge and received a $20,000 grant, while other top participants were also rewarded for their innovative agribusiness solutions.

The government said improving access to equipment and financing remains essential to increasing food production, creating jobs, and driving economic growth.
