The federal government workers under the Umbrella of the Federal Workers Forum in Ondo state have protested the non-payment of their five months wage awards and other arrears.

The protest, which was led by the State coordinator Ondo State Federal Workers Forum, Comrade Akinwunmi Akinkugbe at the premises of the federal government Secretariat in Akure, where the workers expressed grievances over the unfulfilled promises.

Speaking with Journalists, Comrade Akinkugbe explained that government failed to fulfill the Memorandum of understanding signed last year and demanded immediate payment of the five months wage awards and outstanding salary review of 25% – 35% 12 months arrears for tertiary institutions workers.

“They are owing us several arrears and we are out here to let the world know that Government workers are suffering. Federal Government needs to come to the aid of its workers and give us a living wage, not a slavery wage” Akinwunmi said.

He noted that the living conditions and inflation had put pressure on workers who now resorted to excessive borrowing to make ends meet.

A worker , Mr. Opeyemi Aregbesola affirmed that Government had no credible reason to withhold the payment of the incentives since the workers were working for the betterment of the nation.

Another employee from the ministry of Mines, Mr Kadiri Adedoyin disclosed that the protest was held to draw Government’s attention to the welfare of the workers .
