A teacher at Community High School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State has expressed concerns over inadequate security despite the successful rescue of pupils and teachers who were abducted from local schools nearly two months ago.
Speaking after the victims regained their freedom, the teacher said academic activities have resumed and student attendance has improved.
However, many teachers and parents remain worried about safety due to the absence of visible security personnel around the school.
He explained that following the abduction, many parents kept their children at home, causing attendance to drop significantly.
The return of the rescued victims has encouraged more students to resume classes, and examinations, including the NECO English Language paper, have continued as scheduled.
Despite the progress, the teacher noted that fear and trauma still affect many staff members, with discussions about the incident often triggering panic.
He urged the government to strengthen security in rural schools, stressing that the presence of police and military personnel would help restore confidence among teachers, pupils, and parents.
The rescued pupils and teachers regained their freedom after spending 57 days in captivity during a coordinated operation by security agencies.
Two teachers, Michael Oyedokun and Esiyan Adegboye, were killed during the attack.
