Expert Advocates Digitalisation to Tackle Corruption in Construction Industry

The Country Director of Elan Exhibitions West Africa, Jude Chime, has said that greater digitalisation in Nigeria’s construction sector could reduce corruption by as much as 70 to 80 percent.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos ahead of the 2026 Mega Projects Nigeria Expo, Chime said technology and effective national planning are essential for improving transparency and efficiency in the industry.

He explained that digital platforms can limit human interference in key processes, helping to curb corrupt practices.

Chime noted that while some aspects of land allocation have been digitised, much of the process remains manual.

He cited Rwanda as a model, saying its fully digitised land acquisition system has improved efficiency and transparency.

According to him, adopting similar systems in Nigeria would attract more foreign investment and strengthen confidence in the construction sector.

He urged the government to lead the push for digital transformation, noting that a large share of activities in the construction industry is driven by government projects and policies.

He added that many international investors are interested in bringing their expertise and capital to Nigeria if transparent systems are in place.

Chime also highlighted the upcoming Mega Projects Nigeria Expo, which marks its 10th anniversary and is expected to attract 150 exhibitors and participants from 20 countries.

The event will focus on infrastructure development, housing, smart cities, sustainable construction, and investment opportunities, with organisers projecting business deals worth more than $10 billion.
