Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested five suspects in connection with the abduction and murder of a one-year-old girl, Sakina Mamuda, in Duhun Bake village, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, in a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, on Thursday, applauded the DSS for its swift response in nabbing the culprits.

According to the statement, the suspects kidnapped the baby and demanded ransom before killing her and dumping her remains in an abandoned open well.

Those arrested include Zailani Rabiu, Hafizu Yusuf, Abubakar Abdulkareem, Umar Lawan, and Amadu Salisu—all from the same community as the victim.

The suspects are currently under investigation for criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, and homicide.

Speaking during a joint press briefing at the Government House, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, alongside other officials, assured the public that justice would be served.

Governor Yusuf, while expressing deep sorrow over the incident, pledged to strengthen security in the state through better intelligence gathering, logistics, and cooperation among agencies.

“This senseless tragedy has shaken us to the core,” the Governor said. “I commend the DSS for acting swiftly and decisively. We will not rest until justice is done.”
