Defence Minister Not Resigning, Presidency Dismisses Rumours

The Presidency has dismissed reports claiming that the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, is resigning from office, describing the speculation as false.

Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, said Musa remains fully committed to his responsibilities and is focused on strengthening Nigeria’s security.

In a brief statement posted on his X account, Onanuga said the minister was dedicated to implementing the country’s defence strategy, adding that the administration was already recording results.

According to him, “General Musa not resigning as defence minister.

“General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd) remains fully focused on his national security mandate, deeply committed to his duties, and completely dedicated to piloting the nation’s defence strategy with results already being seen.”

The clarification follows earlier comments by Musa, who also denied reports that he planned to resign from office.

The minister described the claims as baseless and threatened legal action against those behind the rumour, insisting he had never discussed resigning with anyone.

Musa made the remarks while speaking with State House correspondents after briefing President Bola Tinubu on the country’s security situation at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday.

President Tinubu appointed Musa as Minister of Defence in December 2025 following the resignation of Mohammed Abubakar, who stepped down from the position days earlier.
