The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested the General Overseer of Champion the Truth Cathedral, Bishop Ndibueze Okorie Onyeagoziri, for allegedly having repeated sexual intercourse with a 22-year-old female sickle cell patient in the state.

It was gathered that the cleric had allegedly been in the habit of exploiting female members of his church who were in vulnerable conditions under the guise of providing them with succour.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Joshua Ukandu, said the suspect was in custody while investigations continued.

He said, “Yes, the bishop is with us here at the police headquarters, Abakaliki. I don’t have any other information as the case is under investigation. On Wednesday, October 1, he was arrested by our men and brought to the state police command over the act.”

In a viral video, the victim narrated how she began living with the cleric after her family and the bishop agreed that she should stay in the church for divine healing due to her health condition. She said her situation worsened despite the “spiritual treatment.”

She alleged that the bishop assured her that having sex with him for seven days would change her genotype from SS to AA. Desperate to survive after losing three siblings to the same ailment, she agreed but said her health deteriorated further.

According to her, she eventually confided in her sister, who insisted she return home. She added, “The Bishop repeatedly threatened to upload pictures of our sexual activities if I left him.” She claimed her nude pictures later surfaced online, sparking reactions.

Onyeagoziri, however, denied the allegations, insisting that he never had intercourse with the victim.

He said, “My phone was stolen earlier this month, and after all efforts by those in possession of the phone to extort me failed, they resorted to denting my image. Those pictures you see are doctored. They aren’t real.”
