China Medical System Holdings has agreed to pay biotechnology company Insilico Medicine up to 1.2 billion yuan ($177 million) in milestone payments for a research and development programme focused on central nervous system diseases.

According to Insilico Medicine, the collaboration will target a major mass-market treatment area within the central nervous system field, with both companies working together to advance the development programme.

The Boston-based drug discovery firm said the partnership expands its previous collaborations with China Medical System in areas including neurological and autoimmune diseases.

China Medical System has not yet disclosed the specific disease targeted by the latest research agreement.
