China has announced a new round of retaliatory tariffs, imposing an additional 34% duty on imports from the United States.

The move intensifies the ongoing trade dispute between the world’s two largest economies.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce made the announcement on Friday, citing it as a direct response to the 34% tariffs introduced by US President Donald Trump earlier in the week as part of his aggressive trade strategy.

The new Chinese tariffs are set to take effect from April 10.

In a strongly worded response, Beijing condemned Washington’s actions, calling them “a typical unilateral bullying tactic” that disregards international trade norms and undermines China’s economic interests.

Beyond tariffs, China has also introduced export restrictions on medium and heavy rare earths, essential materials used in advanced technology, including computer chips and electric vehicle batteries.

These restrictions, which the government claims are necessary for national security and to meet international commitments, will take effect from April 4.

Further escalating the standoff, China has placed 27 US companies on its trade sanction and export control lists, significantly limiting their ability to operate with Chinese businesses.

Additionally, Beijing has announced plans to file a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization (WTO), challenging the US tariffs in an effort to counter what it perceives as economic aggression from Washington.

Trump’s tariff measures have already rattled global markets, with US import duties now ranging from 10% to 49% on goods from multiple countries.

While China faces a 34% tariff, other affected nations include India, Vietnam, the UK, the EU, and South Korea.

Defending his decision, President Trump stated, “Taxpayers have been ripped off for more than 50 years, but it is not going to happen anymore.”
