CAF President Motsepe Leads Tributes for Late Bafana Bafana Midfielder Jayden Adams

Dr. Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), has led tributes following the sudden passing of South African international and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams.

He was 25.
Adams passed away just weeks after representing South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he featured in all three group-stage matches during Bafana Bafana’s historic run to the Round of 32.

“On behalf of CAF and its 54 Member Associations, Dr. Motsepe conveys his heartfelt condolences to the South African Football Association (SAFA), Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club, and the family of Jayden Adams,” CAF stated.

South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Gayton McKenzie, called the midfielder’s death a “huge loss” to the nation.

Adams was enjoying a stellar career, having helped South Africa reach the 2024 AFCON semi-finals before winning the South African Premiership and the 2026 CAF Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns.

The cause of death has not yet been confirmed, and South African authorities have launched an investigation.
