London – The man suspected of killing a mother and two daughters in Bushey remains in a serious condition in hospital, after he was found injured in a cemetery yesterday following a manhunt.
Hertfordshire Police confirmed on Thursday afternoon officers are yet to speak to suspect Kyle Clifford, 26, as he continues to receive treatment in London.
Carol Hunt, 61, who was married to BBC 5 Live racing commentator John Hunt, and two of their daughters – Louise, 25, and Hannah, 28 – were found dead at their home in Hertfordshire on Tuesday evening.
A major search was launched for Clifford, who was found injured in a cemetery in Enfield, north London.
The former soldier is understood to be the ex-boyfriend of Louise, who is reported to have broken up with him last week.
Police confirmed officers have recovered a crossbow as part of their murder investigation.
Police were carrying out a search of his home on Thursday.
Detective Superintendent Rob Hall, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with the victims’ family and loved ones at this devastating and indescribable time.
“This was an unprecedented attack and we are determined to understand the full circumstances of what happened that evening and the events leading up to it. We are wholly committed to seeking justice for the victims and their family. “
Meanwhile friends of the three victims paid tribute to them, describing them as “beautiful souls” and “the loveliest, gentlest family”, while Bushey residents laid flowers near the crime scene and gathered for a vigil.
The BBC described the deaths of Mr Hunt’s wife and two daughters as “utterly devastating” in a note to 5 Live staff.
Messages of condolence have also poured out to Mr Hunt and his surviving daughter, from friends and figures from across the racing and broadcasting worlds.
Neighbour Su Kehinde, 60, who laid flowers at a makeshift tribute in the area on Wednesday, said: “They were the loveliest, gentlest family.
“They were the meekest human beings. They did not deserve this. They were beautiful souls.”
Meanwhile Security Minister Dan Jarvis on Thursday indicated the Home Secretary was looking into whether existing crossbow laws need to be tightened “literally as we speak” following the deaths.
