BREAKING: Veteran Nollywood Actor Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’ Is Dead

Veteran Nollywood Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died after battling stage-four cancer.

His daughter, Kira Taiwo, announced his death on Sunday evening during an emotional live session on Instagram, days after the family disclosed that the actor had been diagnosed with the advanced stage of the disease.

The development comes barely a week after Kira and her sister, Lima Taiwo, appealed to Nigerians, medical professionals and cancer specialists to help save their father, whose condition had reportedly deteriorated.

Kira had disclosed that doctors treating the 66-year-old actor could no longer administer chemotherapy, prompting the family to seek alternative medical intervention.

The family had also revealed that Ogogo was unable to travel abroad for treatment despite having an Indian visa, after doctors reportedly declared him unfit to fly because of his condition.

The actor’s health crisis attracted widespread attention, with colleagues and well-wishers rallying support for the veteran who had spent decades in the Nigerian film industry.

Among those who intervened was Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, the Ogun West senator and All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Ogun State.

Adeola reportedly reached out to cancer specialists and facilitated urgent medical assistance for the actor following the family’s appeal.

Actress and filmmaker Toyosi Adesanya had subsequently announced that Ogogo had been admitted to an operating theatre for treatment.

The intervention came after Kira had clarified that the family was primarily seeking access to appropriate medical care and specialists capable of managing her father’s condition.

Ogogo, who was born in Ilaro, Ogun State, in 1959, was one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language cinema.

He began his acting career in the early 1980s and later left his job with the Lagos State Water Corporation to pursue acting full-time.

Before becoming a full-time actor, Hassan trained and worked as an automobile mechanic.

Over the years, he established himself as an actor, producer, director and filmmaker, featuring in numerous Yoruba-language productions and becoming particularly known for his action roles and commanding screen presence.

His career spanned more than four decades, making him one of the veteran figures whose work helped shape the Yoruba section of the Nigerian film industry.

Ogogo’s death comes only days after his family publicly sought help for his cancer treatment, in an emotional appeal that drew widespread concern and support from fans, colleagues and other Nigerians.
