Fear and chaos have gripped Lata Nna and nearby communities in Kwara North Senatorial District following a violent attack by suspected bandits who launched an assault on Friday evening, overpowering local vigilantes and setting vehicles ablaze.

The attack, which occurred around 7:30 p.m., has triggered a mass displacement of residents across Lata Nna, Kokodo, Gada, and other nearby villages. Eyewitnesses report that vigilantes returning from routine patrols were ambushed by the assailants, who wielded high-grade weapons and set their vehicles on fire.

“The gunshots were terrifying,” a distressed resident told NupekoTV. “Everyone started running. Families have fled in panic. How can anyone say this is false? Our lives are at stake!”

The caller vehemently denied rumors dismissing the attack as a hoax, declaring: “Whosoever claims this incident is untrue will be judged by God. We have been living in fear since Monday.”

According to community reports, the assailants are well-armed and organized, rendering local vigilante resistance ineffective. Residents are now making a desperate appeal to both the Kwara State Government and federal authorities to intervene swiftly and dislodge the armed groups threatening their lives and safety.

This latest assault highlights a disturbing pattern of rising insecurity in Kwara North. Just last week, KoikiMedia documented a similarly violent incident in Babanla community, Ifelodun LGA, where suspected bandits kidnapped two teenage girls, Aisha Yahaya and Mariam Yusuf.

The attackers, who arrived on motorcycles and opened fire, also made an attempt on the life of the traditional ruler’s wife, who narrowly escaped abduction.

As anxiety grows, residents across Kwara North are pleading for urgent and decisive government action to restore peace and prevent further bloodshed in the region.
