Ogun State, Wednesday, August 26, 2026 — The Iru Ekun Security Network has officially launched its operations in Ogun State, with more than 15,000 people turning out for the historic inauguration.
The massive turnout reflects strong public interest in community-based security and the collective desire for safer communities across Ogun State and Yorubaland.
It was a remarkable and significant gathering in Ogun State today as thousands of newly recruited members of the Irun Ekun Security Network came together to formally pledge their commitment to strengthening security, protecting communities, and supporting efforts to ensure the safety of residents across Ogun State and other parts of Yorubaland.
The massive turnout demonstrated the growing interest and support for community-based security initiatives aimed at complementing existing security structures and addressing emerging security challenges across the region.
The Convener of the Irun Ekun Security Network, Chief Sunday Adeyemo Igboho, was present at the occasion to inaugurate the new recruits and formally welcome them into the security outfit.
During the inauguration, the recruits expressed their determination to contribute positively to the protection of lives, property, farms, businesses, and communities.
The development comes at a time when security concerns, particularly kidnapping, violent attacks, criminal activities, farm invasions, land disputes, and other threats, have continued to affect communities and residents in different parts of Yorubaland.
The expansion of the Irun Ekun Security Network is being presented by its supporters as part of a broader effort to improve community vigilance and strengthen local security coordination.
According to accounts surrounding the activities of the organisation, its operations and growing presence in various communities have contributed to increased vigilance and awareness among residents.
Supporters of the initiative believe that the presence of trained community security personnel can help communities identify potential threats early, provide useful information to relevant authorities, and discourage criminal elements from exploiting vulnerable areas.
The expansion of the Irun Ekun Security Network across Yoruba-speaking states and beyond is also expected to encourage stronger cooperation among communities, traditional institutions, farmers, residents, and relevant security agencies.
For many residents, improved security is particularly important for farmers and rural communities, where fear of attacks and criminal activities can discourage people from accessing their farms and carrying out their businesses freely.
A safer environment could therefore contribute not only to the protection of lives and property but also to agricultural activities, economic development, and greater confidence among residents.
The Ogun State inauguration therefore represents another major step in the organisation’s stated objective of expanding its security network and promoting safety throughout Yorubaland.
As the new recruits assume their responsibilities, expectations are high that their activities will remain focused on protecting communities, respecting the rule of law, working responsibly with constituted authorities, and ensuring that security efforts are carried out in a professional and peaceful manner.
The ultimate goal, according to supporters of the initiative, is to create a safer environment where residents can live, work, farm, travel, and conduct their daily activities without unnecessary fear.
