BREAKING NEWS: Igboho Mourns Passing of Yoruba Nation Leader Dr. Adewale Adeniran, Calls for Unity

26 July, 2026

Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Igboho Oosa, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Dr. Adewale Adeniran, describing him as a father figure, a committed patriot, and one of the strongest pillars of the Yoruba Nation Movement.

In a heartfelt tribute released to day Igboho said the passing of Dr. Adeniran marks a significant loss to the Yoruba struggle, noting that the late elder dedicated many years of his life to the pursuit of justice, freedom, and self-determination for the Yoruba people alongside renowned Yoruba leader, Professor Banji Akintoye.

According to Igboho, Dr. Adeniran remained steadfast during some of the most difficult periods of the movement, particularly during his years in exile. He recalled that the late elder provided unwavering encouragement, guidance, and support behind the scenes while shouldering major responsibilities that were largely unknown to the public.

He highlighted Dr. Adeniran’s fluency in the French language and his extensive work in the Republic of Benin, especially in Cotonou, where he handled critical official assignments and documentation that helped sustain the Yoruba Nation Movement during challenging times.

Igboho further noted that despite battling health challenges, Dr. Adeniran chose a life of sacrifice over personal comfort, living in Cotonou with his family for several years in service to the Yoruba cause before eventually returning to Nigeria.

He also celebrated the late leader’s international recognition, recalling that Dr. Adeniran was honoured with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in the Republic of Benin in recognition of his outstanding service, scholarship, and contributions to humanity.

Describing the deceased as a mentor, bridge-builder, and courageous advocate, Igboho said Dr. Adeniran’s wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to justice would continue to inspire future generations of Yoruba sons and daughters.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the Adeniran family, friends, associates, and supporters of the Yoruba Nation Movement, praying that God grants them the strength to bear the painful loss.

Beyond mourning the late elder, Igboho used the occasion to make a passionate appeal to all Yoruba stakeholders—including traditional rulers, religious leaders, political leaders, socio-cultural organisations, professionals, youths, and sons and daughters of Oduduwa—to embrace unity and work together for the collective progress of the Yoruba people.

He stressed that division only weakens the Yoruba nation and hinders its progress, while unity has always remained the greatest source of strength for the people.

“Nothing can be gained through division. Division only weakens our people, slows our progress, and takes us backward. Unity has always been the strength of the Yoruba nation, and it must remain our guiding principle if we are to secure a better future for generations yet unborn,” the statement read.

Igboho urged all Yoruba people to honour Dr. Adeniran’s legacy by upholding the values he lived for—peace, unity, courage, mutual respect, justice, and collective responsibility.

He concluded by paying his final respects to the late elder, saying Dr. Adeniran fought a noble cause and served Yorubaland with honour, dedication, and unwavering commitment.

“Though he has departed this world, his sacrifices, service, and legacy will remain etched in the history of the Yoruba Nation.”

Chief Sunday Adeyemo prayed for Almighty God to grant the late Dr. Adewale Adeniran eternal rest and comfort his family and the entire Yoruba Nation Movement.

“Rest in perfect peace, Baba Dr. Adewale Adeniran. Isokan wa ni Agbara wa (Our Unity is Our Strength).”
