The family of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has confirmed his passing earlier today in London.

The announcement was made public through a formal statement released by Garba Shehu, who served as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity during Buhari’s administration. The news was also shared on social media by Bashir Ahmad, Buhari’s former Digital Media Assistant.

According to the statement, the former Nigerian leader died peacefully this afternoon at a medical facility in London, where he had reportedly been receiving care.

“It is with deep sadness that the family of the former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, announces his passing today, June 13, 2025, at a clinic in London,” the statement read.

Further details regarding funeral arrangements and national tributes are expected to be announced in the coming hours.
