Tension flared in Igbojaye, a community in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, after four suspected Fulani herdsmen ambushed and attacked an Amotekun Corps officer, identified as Amo Ogundiya Ogunleye Mathew (Amo No. 12770), on his farmland.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 7, 2025, around 5:20 PM, shortly after the officer closed from duty at the local Amotekun command. According to reports received by KoikiMedia, Mathew had gone to inspect his farm located in Odoomo village, Igbojaye, when he encountered four armed herders grazing their cattle on his land.
Before he could alight from his motorcycle, the assailants allegedly attacked him with machetes. In a desperate bid to defend himself, the Amotekun officer managed to wrestle a cutlass from one of the attackers and injured one of the herders during the confrontation.
A concerned neighbor, Mrs. Ojedapo Odunayo, quickly alerted the authorities after witnessing the incident. Both the injured officer and one of the suspects were rushed to Praise Hospital, Otu, for medical attention.
However, controversy has emerged following reports that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Otu allegedly seized two rifles from Amotekun operatives who had come to assist their colleague—despite not being officially on duty at the time.
The development has sparked widespread outrage and concern among residents and observers, especially in the face of repeated attacks by suspected Fulani herders in the region. Critics have also expressed frustration over the continued silence of traditional rulers and questioned the response of both the Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde and the Nigeria Police Force in handling such incidents.
Investigations are ongoing, and KoikiMedia will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
