Bandits Storm Sokoto Community, Kill 10 and Kidnap Dozens

At least 10 people have been killed and several others injured after suspected bandits launched a deadly attack on Tofa community in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The attack reportedly took place on Sunday night when the armed assailants stormed the community and began shooting at residents.

The attackers allegedly moved from one part of the community to another before abducting a large number of residents.

Residents who spoke about the incident said between 38 and 40 people were taken away by the bandits during the attack.

However, the exact number of abducted persons remained uncertain as efforts were still ongoing to establish the identities and number of those missing.

Several residents were also reportedly injured during the invasion, while at least 10 people were said to have lost their lives as a result of the violence.

In addition to the killings and abductions, the attackers reportedly rustled a large number of livestock belonging to members of the community.

They were also said to have looted valuables and other items from residents before leaving the area.

The incident has generated fresh anxiety among residents of Tofa and surrounding communities, with concerns growing over the activities of armed groups in parts of Rabah Local Government Area.

Residents are particularly worried about how the attackers were able to enter the community, operate for a considerable period, carry out the killings and abductions, and escape with livestock and other valuables without being intercepted by security personnel.

The attack has renewed calls for increased security presence in vulnerable communities across the area.

Residents are urging the authorities to strengthen patrols, improve intelligence gathering and take decisive measures to prevent armed groups from repeatedly targeting rural communities.

The latest incident also comes amid continuing concerns over attacks, kidnappings and other forms of insecurity affecting communities in parts of Sokoto State and other areas of north-western Nigeria.

When contacted, the spokesman for the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed that the incident occurred.

He, however, explained that the command was still compiling information on the attack and would provide further details after its report had been completed.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of casualties and abducted residents could not be independently verified.

Authorities are expected to provide further information as investigations continue and efforts are made to establish the whereabouts of those abducted.
