A Shari’ah Court judge, Mohammed Muktar, narrowly escaped death or possible abduction after suspected bandits stormed a courtroom in Gwarjo village, Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The attack occurred around midday on Wednesday when armed men reportedly invaded the court premises, firing shots and demanding to know the judge’s whereabouts.

The incident caused panic among residents, court staff, and visitors, who fled for safety.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen entered the courtroom shooting into the air and repeatedly asked for Judge Muktar.

However, the judge had noticed the attackers approaching and managed to escape through a window before they reached the courtroom.

A resident who witnessed the incident said the judge was assisted by a commercial motorcyclist, who helped him flee the area before the attackers arrived.

After discovering that the judge had escaped, the bandits reportedly threatened to kill him if he returned to preside over court proceedings in the community.

Witnesses said the attackers vowed to track him down if he continued carrying out his judicial duties in Gwarjo.

The incident has heightened security concerns in the area, which has experienced repeated attacks by armed bandits in recent years.

It also raises fresh concerns about the safety of judges and other public officials working in rural communities affected by insecurity.
