The family of late Oluwabamise Ayanwole has said justice has not been fully served, despite the death sentence handed down to BRT driver Andrew Nice on May 2, 2025, for her abduction and murder.
At a press briefing in Lagos, the family accused the Nigerian police of failing to identify and arrest other suspects allegedly mentioned by Bamise before her death.
Abegunde Pelumi Caleb, speaking on behalf of the family, said the investigation was incomplete and vital evidence, including Bamise’s phone, remains missing.
“Where is Bamise’s phone and other belongings? That phone could help trace the others involved. Where are those she mentioned in her final voice notes?” Abegunde asked.
He also questioned the state of the convict in detention, saying, “Why is Andrew Nice looking well-fed while others convicted of similar crimes suffer? Justice must be equal.”
Kehinde Adeoye, Lagos Chairman of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), also expressed dissatisfaction, stating, “The judgement is not enough. The police must fish out the other suspects who were involved in Bamise’s death.”
He noted that the victim’s phone had yet to be returned to the family, suggesting the investigation may still be ongoing.
Another family member, James Joel, accused the police of negligence and called for the case to be reopened.
“The family is not satisfied with this judgement. What about the two men and a woman who are still at large? They are not ghosts. Let’s hope the new Commissioner of Police will take action. Justice delayed is justice denied,” he said.
