Arsenal could make a major move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, with reports suggesting that an offer of more than £60 million could persuade Galatasaray to sell the forward this summer.
The Premier League champions have been monitoring Osimhen for some time and are reportedly considering making a formal bid for the 27-year-old as they look to strengthen their attacking options.
According to reports from Football Insider, Arsenal’s interest in Osimhen was discussed during negotiations with Galatasaray over a possible transfer involving Gabriel Martinelli.
However, any deal for Osimhen would be separate from a potential Martinelli move.
Football Insider reported that Arsenal would likely need to offer more than £60 million to have a realistic chance of signing the Nigerian international.
Osimhen joined Galatasaray on a permanent four-year contract last summer after previously spending a season on loan at the Turkish club.
He enjoyed an impressive first campaign as a permanent player, recording 28 goal contributions in 33 appearances.
A transfer to Arsenal could also make Osimhen the club’s highest-paid player.
He currently earns more than £300,000 per week at Galatasaray, meaning the Gunners would have to make a significant financial commitment to complete the deal.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta recently confirmed that the club remains active in the transfer market as he seeks to add more quality and depth to his squad.
Arteta said the club would continue looking for opportunities to improve the team, while acknowledging that completing transfers also depends on the willingness of other clubs to negotiate.
Osimhen, meanwhile, has refused to rule out a move away from Galatasaray.
After scoring twice in the club’s Super Lig opener on Friday, the striker said transfer rumours were normal during the transfer window and that his immediate focus remained on performing for his team.
The potential move would give Arsenal an experienced and prolific centre-forward capable of adding greater firepower to their attack, while Osimhen would have the opportunity to compete regularly at the highest level of English football and in European competition.
With Arsenal reportedly prepared to make a substantial offer, Osimhen’s future could become one of the biggest transfer stories before the summer window closes.
