The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday formally presented a party membership card to Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, at its national secretariat in Abuja, officially confirming his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party.

Presenting the card, the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, said the move marked a new political chapter for the South East and a major step toward strengthening the party’s presence in the region.

“The presentation of this membership card to Governor Peter Mbah symbolises his full integration into the APC family,” Bashiru said.

“His decision reflects the growing confidence Nigerians have in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.”

The APC, in a post on its official X handle, also announced, “The APC National Working Committee (NWC) has formally presented the Party’s membership card to the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah @PNMbah, officially marking his entry into the APC.”

Party leaders described Mbah’s defection as a “strategic victory” for the ruling party, saying it would enhance APC’s political reach in the South East and foster closer cooperation between the state and the Federal Government.

They also pledged to support the governor in driving development programmes aligned with the party’s national agenda, especially in areas of infrastructure, education, and job creation.

Speaking earlier in a state broadcast titled “Charting a New Course: Transition from PDP to APC,” Mbah said his decision to join the APC followed extensive consultations and was motivated by a desire to ensure Enugu’s development aligns with Federal Government policies.

“This is not about personal ambition. It is about ensuring that Enugu’s progress is reinforced through partnership with the centre under President Tinubu,” he said.

The ceremony was attended by top APC figures, former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, members of the State Executive Council, National Assembly members, and local government chairmen.

With Mbah’s defection, the APC leadership said the party has further solidified its foothold in the South East and is now better positioned to deliver its Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme across the region.
