Anti-Trafficking Group Warns Nigerians Against Fake Overseas Job Offers

The Global Anti-Human Trafficking Organisation (GAHTO) has cautioned Nigerian youths and parents against fraudulent job offers that lure people abroad with promises of better opportunities.

Speaking to mark the 2026 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, GAHTO founder Prosper Michael said many Nigerians are being deceived into travelling to countries such as Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Libya, Egypt and Iraq, where they end up facing exploitation, forced labour and other forms of abuse.

Michael noted that despite ongoing awareness campaigns, traffickers continue to target Nigerians with false promises of lucrative jobs and a better life overseas.

He urged young people to thoroughly verify employment opportunities before travelling and to use only legal migration channels.

He also called on government agencies, development partners, corporate organisations and philanthropists to support efforts aimed at rescuing, rehabilitating and reintegrating victims of human trafficking.

According to him, combating human trafficking requires collective action from governments, security agencies, civil society groups and the public to protect vulnerable individuals and prevent further exploitation.
