Senate President Godswill Akpabio has refuted claims made by Senators Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Elisha Abbo, labeling them as “part of a calculated effort to mislead the public.”
He is demanding that both senators publicly withdraw their statements and offer a formal apology, warning that failure to do so may result in legal consequences.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio condemned the allegations, characterizing them as “orchestrated falsehoods” aimed at discrediting his leadership.
The statement, titled “False and Malicious Allegations Targeting the President of the Senate,” specifically responded to claims made by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan in a public address in Kogi State on April 1, 2025.
She alleged that Akpabio had enlisted former Governor Yahaya Bello to orchestrate an assassination attempt against her.
The statement denounced this as a “dangerous and provocative fabrication,” and added, “This is a wicked and groundless accusation with no basis in reality. Senator Natasha has made similar allegations in the past, particularly in 2019 and 2023. It is unfortunate that rather than engage in constructive legislative duties, she chooses to mislead the public with falsehoods.”
The statement also dismissed her assertion that she had been deprived of her entitlements as a senator, explaining that such benefits are handled through standard administrative processes rather than personal decisions by the Senate President.
“The Senate President has no power to singlehandedly withhold or approve any senator’s entitlements. These matters are processed through administrative channels. Senator Natasha’s claim is therefore not only misleading but a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.”
Additionally, the statement addressed comments made by Senator Elisha Abbo during an interview on Arise News TV, where he accused Akpabio of running the Senate as a “personal empire” and conspiring to unseat him along with four other senators.
Abbo further claimed he had been denied official entitlements despite a court ruling that annulled his tenure.
Eyiboh dismissed these allegations, stating, “Senator Abbo is engaging in media theatrics and reckless finger-pointing rather than accepting the legal and political realities of his situation. Any benefits he is claiming must first meet legal and administrative requirements before being processed.”
He also criticized Abbo’s stance, remarking, “The Senate President has always conducted himself with integrity, ensuring that the institution remains focused on its core legislative responsibilities. It is regrettable that some individuals seek to rewrite history to mask their personal failures.”
Akpabio reiterated his dedication to maintaining a transparent and accountable Senate, emphasizing that he would not allow baseless accusations to derail the institution’s focus on governance.
The statement concluded by calling on both senators to adhere to democratic principles and prioritize their responsibilities to the public.
