Adeleke Receives Certificate Of Return, Calls for Unity In Osun

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday formally confirmed Ademola Adeleke’s re-election as Osun State governor with the presentation of his Certificate of Return.

The certificate was presented to Adeleke alongside his deputy, Kola Adewusi, by the INEC National Commissioner supervising Osun State, Prof. Kunle Ajayi, at the commission’s office in Osogbo.

Speaking at the ceremony, Adeleke thanked INEC and the security agencies for their roles in the successful conduct of Saturday’s governorship election.

He also commended President Bola Tinubu for allowing democracy to thrive and wished him success in the 2027 general elections.

Adeleke called on candidates who contested against him to join his administration in moving Osun State forward, stressing that “Osun is bigger than anyone.”

The governor also remembered those who lost their lives during the election, promising to provide scholarships for their children.

He said he had forgiven those who wronged him during the electioneering period and appealed to his supporters to do the same.

The presentation was witnessed by members of Adeleke’s party and his supporters.

INEC declared Adeleke the winner of the election in the early hours of Sunday after he secured 511,067 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, said 985,079 votes were valid, while 20,721 were rejected, bringing the total number of votes cast to 1,005,800.
