Nigeria’s Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun was on Monday, dragged on X formerly known as Twitter as people called him out over bad roads in some communities in Ogun State.
The social platform users posted pictures of bad roads from various locations in the state, accusing Mr Abiodun of failing to provide ‘motorable’ roads in the state.
A user, @HauwaAllahbura said that when the governor was soliciting votes, he promised to fix some roads in the state, but he had failed to fulfill his promise.
“Good morning Nigerians. In 2020, when Dapo Abiodun was looking for votes, he said to us on X that he was fixing a few roads listed in his tweets. Here is the condition of some of the roads in his tweet. He fix am abi him no fix am? I will allow you to judge.🥹
“….I literally had to park my car whilst someone with a car favorable to the road had to come pick me up,” the X user wrote.
Another user, @OAKGbenga said: “I once got trapped around this axis, Sango-Ijoko-Giwa-Okearo and it was raining heavily….My luck that day was having V6 off road Nissan Frontier truck……. That axis has very terrible roads.”
@Ilo_Monsurbj stated: “You will be surprised as to how this road (Ijoko road) is to the Lagos-Abẹ́òkúta Expressway linking Lagos state. But the governor is not interested in completing the road as far as it’s not under Ogun East (his Senatorial district). It’s a matter of time.”
@EastsideIgboboy asserted that Ogun State is the headquarters of bad roads in Nigeria.
@alexottiofr said: “…upon all the big factories in Ota, Ogun State, I still wonder while Sango Ota has very bad roads.”
@yeankhar said: “ROAD OF NOTE: The road leading to the Wole Soyinka Train Station in Abeokuta South is not motorable.
“If you are passing through Idi Aba via Olokuta to get there, you can literally lose your senses. Abeokuta, a state capital has some of the worst roads ever.”
One @tundealuko described the people accusing Abiodun government of failure to fix roads as ‘ungrateful’.
“Very ungrateful people I tell you. Look at the state of their roads in 2022, I took this photos myself, these roads are almost not motorable today. It’s indeed a paid PR war, they are crying out after everything excellent Dapo Abiodun has done for them 👌 ,” he wrote.
@ukocarter said: “This is Ogun state. This state has more IGR than the entire South East put together. Clap hands for Dapo Abiodun.”
The Special Adviser to the governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade could not be reached for comments.
In an X post on June 19, Governor Abiodun said that he had directed palliative works be done on some sellect roads in the state.
“I have directed that palliative works be done on Ojodu Abiodun-Denro Ishashi-Ajuwon-Akute Alagbole-Yakoyo, and Alagbado-Oke Aro-Lambe-Matogun Roads, to keep them motorable until after the current rainy season when we will commence full reconstruction,” he wrote.
