Former Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, has reportedly died, according to sources close to his family who spoke to Newsmen on Monday, October 19, 2026.
The circumstances surrounding his reported death remained unclear as of the time of filing this report, with no further details immediately available.
“Uduaghan is no more; he is dead,” one of the sources reportedly told Journalists.
The development comes months after reports of the former governor’s death circulated on social media, prompting his family and media aide to dismiss the claims as false.
In June, reports alleging that Uduaghan had died spread across Facebook and WhatsApp, generating concern among residents, political associates and stakeholders in Delta State.
The reports, which began circulating on June 26, prompted his media aide, Henry Unini, to issue a statement reassuring the public that the former governor was alive.
At the time, Unini dismissed the reports, insisting that Uduaghan was still alive and criticising those responsible for spreading the unverified information.
“I can tell you for a fact that Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan is alive,” he said.
He expressed concern over the circulation of unverified reports of death, stressing that such sensitive information should not be published without proper confirmation from reliable sources.
Unini cited an incident involving the late Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe, who was reportedly surprised to hear a news announcement of his own death and questioned why the report had not been verified with the appropriate authorities.
The media aide also acknowledged at the time that Uduaghan had been experiencing health challenges but maintained that he was receiving medical attention.
“It is now common knowledge that Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has been sick, but he is receiving proper medical care,” Unini said.
He added that the former governor was recuperating and assured the public that there was no immediate cause for alarm.
“There is no cause for alarm whatsoever,” he stated.
Unini subsequently thanked friends, associates, well-wishers and residents of Delta State who contacted the family to enquire about the former governor’s condition.
He urged members of the public to continue praying for Uduaghan and his family, promising that further information would be made available when necessary.
The media aide also cautioned against the spread of unverified information, describing the earlier reports of Uduaghan’s death as unnecessary and misleading.
“The rumour was uncalled for,” he said.
Uduaghan, who served as governor of Delta State from 2007 to 2015, was a prominent political figure in the state and a former member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
As of Monday, October 19, 2026, further details surrounding the reported death had yet to emerge from the sources cited by Newsmen.
