The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has again declared the former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.
The anti-graft agency announced the development in a public notice issued on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, accompanied by a photograph of the former pension reform task force chairman.
According to the EFCC, Maina, 61, is wanted in connection with an alleged case of “Receiving Stolen Properties.”
The commission appealed to members of the public who may have useful information about his whereabouts to contact the EFCC or the nearest police station and other security agencies.
The EFCC also listed its offices in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt and Abuja as locations where members of the public could provide relevant information.
The commission further provided a telephone contact and its official email address for anyone with information that could assist in locating Maina.
Maina, an indigene of Biu in Borno State, had previously been declared wanted by the EFCC in November 2015 over allegations of procurement fraud, stealing and money laundering linked to the pension biometric verification programme.
He became widely known across Nigeria during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan when he served as Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms.
The task force was established to help recover pension funds and address alleged fraud and irregularities within the country’s pension system.
Maina’s activities in that position subsequently became the subject of significant public and legal scrutiny.
The EFCC later prosecuted him over alleged money laundering involving funds linked to pension reform activities.
In November 2022, the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted Maina and sentenced him to eight years in prison for money laundering-related offences.
The court also ordered the forfeiture of assets linked to the case.
Following the judgment, Maina appealed the conviction.
The latest EFCC declaration has now brought renewed attention to the former pension task force chairman.
However, the commission’s latest notice did not disclose whether the new wanted declaration is connected to the previous pension-related case or provide specific details about the stolen property allegedly involved.
The EFCC has continued to rely on public assistance in locating individuals wanted in connection with financial and other alleged offences, urging Nigerians with credible information to report such cases through appropriate channels.
The latest notice places Maina once again on the EFCC’s wanted list as investigations into the alleged offence continue.
