Ogogo’s Family Sets October 2 for 40th-Day Prayer

The family of late veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has announced plans to hold a 40th-day prayer session in honour of the actor.

Ogogo’s daughter, Kira Taiwo, announced the programme on Wednesday through her Instagram page, inviting family members, friends, colleagues, associates and well-wishers to join the gathering.

According to the invitation released by the family, the prayer session will take place on Friday, October 2, 2026, beginning at 12 noon at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground in Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State.

The invitation poster featured a photograph of the late actor and carried the inscription, “You are invited to the 40 days prayer for Alh. Al-Hassan Babatunde Taiwo ‘Ogogo.’”

The gathering is expected to bring together members of Ogogo’s immediate and extended family, as well as colleagues from the Yoruba film industry and other associates who worked with or knew the veteran actor.

The prayer session will also provide an opportunity for those close to Ogogo to reflect on his life, career and contributions to the Nigerian entertainment industry, particularly the Yoruba-language film sector.

Ogogo was buried in Ilaro, Ogun State, on August 24, 2026, a day after his death at the age of 66.

The actor died on August 23, 2026, after a career spanning more than four decades in the Yoruba film industry.

Over the years, he established himself as a recognisable figure in Nollywood through his acting roles and involvement in the development of indigenous-language cinema.

His death prompted tributes from colleagues, friends, fans and other stakeholders in the entertainment industry, many of whom remembered him for his lengthy career and contribution to Yoruba filmmaking.

The 40th-day prayer is being held in accordance with Islamic tradition, as the family continues to mourn the veteran actor while commemorating his life and legacy.

The event is expected to serve both as a religious gathering and as a moment for family members, friends and colleagues to come together in remembrance of an actor whose career spanned several decades.

With the prayer scheduled for October 2, the family has called on those who knew Ogogo and appreciated his work to join them in honouring his memory and offering prayers for the repose of his soul.
