At least three people have been killed and six others injured after Russia launched a fresh wave of missile and drone attacks on several parts of Ukraine, damaging industrial facilities and critical infrastructure, Ukrainian officials said on Tuesday.

The overnight attacks came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly, where diplomatic efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war are expected to feature prominently in discussions among world leaders.

Ukrainian officials said the Russian strikes targeted industrial facilities and energy infrastructure in multiple regions.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, attacks were reported in Dnipro, Pavlohrad and Kryvyi Rih, Zelenskyy’s hometown. Regional Governor Oleksandr Hanzha said the attacks caused significant damage to business premises and warehouses.

Three people were killed and six others wounded in Dnipro after the city came under attacks involving missiles, drones and artillery, according to the governor.

Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 212 drones and four cruise missiles during the overnight assault, along with an unspecified number of Oniks anti-ship missiles and ballistic missiles.

The attacks also affected Ukraine’s electricity infrastructure. In the northern Chernihiv region, a strike on a power facility left nearly 100,000 consumers without electricity, officials said.

In the central Poltava region, Governor Vitalii Diakivnych described the assault as “massive”, saying an industrial enterprise and a critical infrastructure facility had been hit.

Russia’s Defence Ministry confirmed that its forces had carried out large-scale strikes in Ukraine. It said the attacks targeted industrial and military facilities, fuel and energy infrastructure, port facilities and vessels being used by the Ukrainian military.

Meanwhile, Ukraine also launched drone attacks inside Russia.
The governor of Russia’s Samara region said Ukrainian drones struck the area along the Volga River, killing one person and injuring four others.

The region is home to important industrial facilities, including oil refineries.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 297 Ukrainian drones over several Russian regions during the night.

Zelenskyy Begins Diplomatic Push in New York
The latest attacks occurred as Zelenskyy arrived in New York for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, bringing renewed attention to the war as world leaders gather for high-level diplomatic meetings.

Nearly 130 heads of state are expected to participate in the UN gathering, with the conflict in Ukraine and possible efforts to secure a pathway towards peace expected to remain major issues.

Zelenskyy said on social media platform X that Ukraine was preparing to sign a “drone deal” aimed at strengthening the country’s air-defence capabilities and securing additional funding for its war effort.

He said Ukraine’s main objective remained ending the conflict and protecting civilians.

“Ukraine’s number one priority is bringing peace closer and protecting the lives of our people,” Zelenskyy said, adding that Kyiv was working on security proposals and de-escalation measures that could contribute to ending the war.

The Ukrainian president said he had about 20 meetings scheduled during his visit to the United States.

The engagements are expected to include discussions with US President Donald Trump, European leaders, US senators and members of the House of Representatives, international organisations, American business leaders and policy think tanks.

Zelenskyy met French President Emmanuel Macron in New York on Monday and was expected to meet Trump on Tuesday.

Macron had earlier held talks with Trump, after which the French president said the United States and France had agreed to work together towards securing a moratorium on attacks against energy networks and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.

Both Zelenskyy and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov are scheduled to address the UN General Assembly later this week.

The diplomatic meetings are taking place against the backdrop of continued military escalation, with both Russia and Ukraine reporting extensive overnight drone attacks and damage to critical infrastructure.
