Ooni of Ife Begins Seven-Day Seclusion Ahead of 2026 Olojo Festival

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has commenced his annual seven-day spiritual seclusion ahead of the 2026 Olojo Festival in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The seclusion, which began on Sunday, 20 September 2026, forms an important part of the traditional and spiritual preparations leading to the annual Olojo Festival, one of the major cultural celebrations associated with Ile-Ife and the Yoruba people.

During the seven-day period, the Ooni will withdraw from regular public engagements to devote time to prayers, fasting, spiritual reflection and communion with the ancestors, according to statements from the Ooni’s Palace. The monarch is expected to use the period to pray for peace, unity and sustainable progress in Nigeria, as well as the wellbeing of the people.

The traditional rite is also connected with preparations for the sacred ceremonies of the Olojo Festival, including the eventual appearance of the Ooni in the Aare Crown, an important symbol associated with the festival. The Ooni has described the period as an opportunity to deepen his spiritual connection with the ancestors and honour the traditions and legacies handed down through generations.
