Bissouma Joins Ajax After Tottenham Exit, Targets Fresh Start in Netherlands

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has completed a move to Dutch giants Ajax, signing an initial contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the current season.

The 30-year-old Mali international joined Ajax as a free agent after being released by Tottenham in June. His agreement with the Amsterdam-based club reportedly contains an option to extend his stay for an additional 12 months.

Ajax technical director Jordi Cruyff confirmed that the club had been in talks with Bissouma since August before finally reaching an agreement with the experienced midfielder.

Cruyff said Ajax were pleased to have secured a player with considerable experience at the highest level and highlighted Bissouma’s ability to operate in different midfield roles.

“We have brought in an experienced player who knows what it takes to perform at the highest level.

He is capable of playing in several positions, and we hope he will be available for selection as soon as possible,” Cruyff said.

Bissouma moved to Tottenham from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 and made 111 appearances for the North London club during his spell there.

Despite showing his quality in midfield, his time at Tottenham was also affected by disciplinary and selection issues. In August 2025, former Spurs manager Thomas Frank left Bissouma out of the squad for the UEFA Super Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain following concerns over persistent lateness.

The midfielder subsequently struggled for consistent playing time during his final campaign with Tottenham, making just 11 Premier League appearances.

Spurs ended the season in 17th place, finishing in the same position for the second consecutive season.

Bissouma’s arrival at Ajax represents a fresh opportunity for the midfielder to revive his career and return to regular first-team football.

His experience in the Premier League and international football could also provide additional depth and versatility to Ajax’s midfield.

The Mali international will now look to establish himself in the Ajax squad and contribute to the club’s campaign as he begins a new chapter in the Netherlands.
