BREAKING: Tension as Suspected Thugs Block Peter Obi’s Convoy in Benue

The arrival of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, in Benue State on Tuesday was reportedly disrupted after suspected thugs allegedly blocked a major road along the route being used by his convoy.

The allegation was made by Obi’s media aide, Esther Umoh, who shared videos on her X account showing what appeared to be a confrontation involving individuals along the route.

According to Umoh, the incident occurred shortly after Obi arrived in the state.

She alleged that the group blocked the Boko Road near the Air Force Base in an attempt to prevent the former Anambra State governor and his entourage from gaining access to parts of the state.

In a post accompanying one of the videos, Obi’s aide claimed that the individuals involved in the blockade were allegedly sponsored to frustrate the politician’s movement and disrupt his activities in Benue.

Another video shared by Umoh appeared to show several individuals running towards vehicles travelling with Obi’s convoy.

She described the development as an attempt to attack members of the entourage.

The allegations, however, could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report.

The identities of the individuals seen in the videos, as well as their motives, remain unclear.

There was also no immediate confirmation from independent sources that the incident constituted an organised attack on Obi or members of his convoy.

The Benue State Government and the state Police Command had not publicly responded to the allegations as of press time.

The incident comes amid growing political activities ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with political parties and their candidates increasingly embarking on nationwide consultations and engagements.
