Nigerian TikToker and content creator Elizabeth Amadou, popularly known as Jarvis, has opened up about her difficult childhood, revealing that she grew up without her father and faced financial hardship while being raised by a mother living with bipolar disorder.

Jarvis shared her story in a trending video on Sunday while speaking alongside her husband, Peller, during a service with the founder of Spark Nation, Pastor Tobi, in the United Kingdom.

Reflecting on her upbringing, Jarvis described living with her mother as emotionally challenging because of her mother’s condition, which she said sometimes affected her behaviour towards the family.

She explained that her mother could be loving and calm at one moment but become angry, verbally abusive or violent at another, making her childhood stressful and difficult.

Jarvis also revealed that she never had the opportunity to grow up with her father.

According to her, her mother travelled abroad and returned pregnant with her, leaving her to be raised largely by her grandparents.

She said her grandparents played an important role in shaping her character, describing them as strict but well-educated people who provided her with discipline and guidance.

Beyond the challenges at home, Jarvis said her family also struggled financially. She recalled periods when they could not afford her school fees and when she and her sister sometimes went without food.

Despite the hardship, she said she was determined to remain in school and avoid being influenced by peers into engaging in questionable activities to make money.

Jarvis recalled that she and her sister sometimes watched cooking videos on TikTok despite being unable to afford the meals featured in them.

She said those difficult moments often ended with them praying for help and going to bed hungry.

According to the content creator, her circumstances eventually pushed her towards TikTok livestreaming after someone contacted her through the platform and told her she could make money by going live.

Although she was initially shy and worried that members of her family might discover what she was doing, Jarvis said she eventually began livestreaming alongside her sister.

Their first earnings were only about $5, but she said the money meant a lot to them because of the financial difficulties they were facing at the time.

She explained that their activities later developed from livestreaming into full-time content creation, allowing them to gradually build an audience and establish themselves online.

Jarvis said one of her biggest motivations was to support her sister and create a better life for both of them.

“I wanted to take care of my sister. I want to be able to provide a living for ourselves,” she said.

What started as an attempt to survive financial hardship eventually became the beginning of Jarvis’ career as a TikTok livestreamer and content creator.
