Bashir el-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, has launched a scathing attack on his brother, Bello, over his recent political activities.
Bashir, in a series of posts on X on Saturday morning, accused Bello of abandoning the family while maintaining his allegiance to Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, before later defecting to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Sani, who succeeded Nasir el-Rufai as governor in 2023, was previously an ally of the former governor. However, their relationship deteriorated after Sani assumed office.
Nasir el-Rufai resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in March 2025 and subsequently joined the ADC.
Bello, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, remained in the APC until May 7, 2026, when he defected to the ADC and joined his father in the opposition party.
Reacting to his brother’s political realignment, Bashir alleged that Bello remained loyal to Sani until he realised that the governor was no longer interested in him.
“Stuck with Uba Sani until he realized he is being dumped then suddenly remembered family loyalty and moved to ADC. Where was he since? Purely serving his interest,” Bashir wrote.
He further accused Bello of maintaining a neutral position while other members of the family criticised the Kaduna governor.
Bashir also alleged that Bello had previously asked him to stop criticising Sani, whom he described as his former political boss.
“At this stage in my life, I hate nonsense,” Bashir added in another post, describing his brother as a hypocrite.
He also made several other allegations against Bello, some of which were later deleted. The deleted posts reportedly contained claims concerning his brother’s fertility status and alleged drug use, though Bashir did not provide evidence to substantiate the claims.
The public exchange comes amid legal troubles involving their father, Nasir el-Rufai, who has been in custody since February 2026 over allegations of financial impropriety during his tenure as Kaduna governor between 2015 and 2023.
On April 13, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission arraigned the former governor before the Kaduna State High Court on an amended nine-count charge bordering on alleged fraud and abuse of office.
The Department of State Services is also prosecuting him before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations relating to wiretapping.
