Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have recorded significant successes in ongoing counter-terrorism operations across Kaduna and Katsina states, arresting three suspected terrorist collaborators, recovering weapons and ammunition, and destroying several terrorist enclaves.

The operations were carried out on August 27 and 28, 2026, as part of intensified efforts to disrupt terrorist networks and prevent them from establishing bases in communities within the Joint Operations Area.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Military Information Officer, troops of Sector 1 acted on credible intelligence concerning a suspected terrorist collaborator in Kaduna State.

The suspect was arrested while allegedly carrying two locally fabricated firearms and 13 rounds of ammunition concealed inside a bag.

During preliminary questioning, the suspect reportedly told investigators that he had been assigned to deliver the weapons and ammunition to another person.

Based on information obtained from the suspect, troops immediately launched a follow-up operation, leading to the arrest of two additional suspects allegedly linked to the movement of the weapons.

The three suspects, together with the recovered firearms, ammunition and other items, have been handed over for further investigation to determine their level of involvement in terrorist activities.

In a separate operation conducted on August 28, troops of Sector 2, working alongside other security agencies, carried out a clearance operation against suspected terrorist enclaves around Maharba and Karaduwa in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The troops successfully cleared and destroyed the identified enclaves and other structures reportedly being used by terrorists to plan and support their criminal activities.

One of the locations was reportedly linked to a notorious terrorist leader, Kachalla Muhammadu Filani, whose group has been accused of terrorising residents of Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas.

According to the military, the terrorist leader narrowly escaped as troops advanced towards the enclave.

A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of an RPG-7 tube, a motorcycle, mobile phones and other items believed to be connected to the terrorists.

Following the operation, troops conducted additional fighting patrols across the surrounding areas to consolidate the gains made, prevent the terrorists from regrouping and restrict their freedom of movement.

The military said the latest operations demonstrate the continued commitment of Operation Fansan Yamma to dismantling terrorist networks, disrupting the movement of weapons and logistics, and denying criminal groups access to hideouts and operational bases.

The Joint Task Force also reaffirmed its determination to intensify coordinated and intelligence-led operations aimed at weakening the capabilities of terrorist groups and restoring lasting peace and security to communities affected by insecurity.
