‘Worst NFF President’ – Ex-Super Eagles Player Mocks Gusau Over Resignation

Former Super Eagles defender Shehu Abdullahi has mocked Ibrahim Gusau following his resignation as President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), describing him as the “worst” president the federation has ever had.

Abdullahi also said Gusau should not be allowed to return to football administration.

The former international made the remarks in a Facebook post on Thursday while reacting to Gusau’s resignation from the NFF presidency.

“You get what you deserve 😂 the worst we ever get even in Zamfara state what can you show nothing nothing nothing,” Abdullahi wrote.

He added, “Congratulations to all football fans in Nigeria now we are free. Someone like you should never be allowed to close to any football activities 👌🏽😎.”

Gusau announced his resignation during a press conference at the NFF Glass House in Abuja, saying he decided to step down to allow other Nigerians to contribute to the development of football in the country.

“I just want to tell you that I decided to resign my position as the NFF President,” Gusau said.

He disclosed that he had informed members of his board about his decision and advised those willing to follow him to also resign.

Gusau, however, said he could not immediately confirm the number of board members who had resigned alongside him.

He said he would remain available to support Nigerian football by offering his experience and relationships within African football whenever necessary.

The resignation followed a difficult period for Nigerian football, including the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Falcons’ failure ended Nigeria’s run of appearing in every edition of the Women’s World Cup since the tournament began in 1991.

Following the setbacks, the NFF constituted a fact-finding committee to investigate the factors responsible for the poor performances of the national teams.

Also on Thursday, NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi announced his resignation while addressing staff at the federation’s secretariat.

Gusau was elected NFF president at the federation’s 78th Elective Congress in September 2022.

His resignation came ahead of the NFF board election scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The resignation of Gusau and Sanusi is expected to lead to a leadership transition at the federation ahead of the forthcoming election.
