Saint Janet Laid to Rest in Ogun After Funeral Tributes

Veteran Nigerian Juju and Highlife musician Iyun Janet Ajilore, popularly known as Saint Janet, has been laid to rest at her residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, weeks after her death.

The respected musician was buried on Wednesday following a series of funeral activities attended by her children, relatives, friends, colleagues in the entertainment industry and devoted admirers who came to honour her memory.

The burial ceremony was marked by emotional moments as family members and sympathisers gathered to pay their final respects to the late singer.

Her children and other mourners were seen around her remains before she was finally committed to the earth.

Among the notable personalities who joined the family in mourning was veteran Juju musician Gentleman Dele Taiwo, alongside other members of Nigeria’s traditional music community.

Their presence highlighted the impact Saint Janet had on the Juju and Highlife music industry during her career.

The funeral activities began on Tuesday with a candlelight service, Christian wake and an Artists’ Night held at the AIT/Faaji FM compound in Kola Alagbado, Lagos.

The events provided an opportunity for colleagues, friends and fans to celebrate her life and contributions to Nigerian music.

The family had earlier announced that Saint Janet would be buried at her residence in Abeokuta, where she spent part of her later years.

Saint Janet, fondly called “Mama Yabis,” carved out a distinctive identity for herself in Nigeria’s Juju and Highlife music scene. She was known for combining traditional music with humour, satire and bold social commentary.
