Suspected thugs on Thursday reportedly stormed the Ondo State House of Assembly amid the ongoing leadership crisis surrounding the alleged impeachment of the Speaker, Olamide Oladiji.

The men, who were said to have come from Ondo town, the constituency represented by the embattled Speaker, reportedly entered the Assembly complex and moved around various offices without clearly stating their purpose.

Their presence reportedly created tension among workers and other individuals within the legislative premises, particularly as the Assembly has been experiencing heightened political tension over the alleged move to remove the Speaker from office.

A staff member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the suspected thugs went from one office to another, causing concern among workers who were unsure of their intentions.

According to the source, the situation was eventually brought under control following the intervention of a lawmaker, Olajide Oguntodu, alongside other members of the Assembly and security personnel stationed within the complex.

The intervention reportedly prevented the situation from escalating further, while the suspected thugs were eventually made to leave the Assembly premises.

The incident occurred against the backdrop of an unfolding leadership crisis within the Ondo State House of Assembly, with lawmakers reportedly divided over the future of Speaker Olamide Oladiji.

The alleged impeachment move has increased tension around the legislative complex, prompting heightened security measures as authorities seek to prevent any possible breakdown of law and order.

The development has also raised concerns among workers and residents over the possibility of the political disagreement escalating into a wider security challenge if not properly managed.

Security personnel were reportedly maintaining a strong presence around the Assembly complex as efforts continued to prevent further disturbances.

However, as of the time of filing this report, the Ondo State House of Assembly had not issued an official statement regarding the alleged invasion, the identity or purpose of the men involved, or the circumstances surrounding the reported impeachment proceedings.

Further developments are expected as lawmakers and relevant authorities respond to the growing crisis within the state legislature.
