The Ogun State Police Command has dismantled an alleged illegal baby factory in Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children while arresting six suspects.
The operation was carried out on August 24, 2026, by officers of the Mowe Division following intelligence about suspected human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the facility.
According to the police, the suspects arrested include Florence Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and a nurse, Oseni Idaya.
The police said officers stormed the suspected syndicate’s hideout on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, around 8:00 a.m. during the intelligence-led operation.
Two pregnant women were rescued from the location. They were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant.
Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also recovered.
The police subsequently carried out further investigations and traced another alleged victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, to a hospital within the Mowe area.
She reportedly gave birth to a baby boy on August 20.
However, while Effiong was receiving medical attention, the whereabouts of her newborn could not be established.
The attending nurse was subsequently arrested as investigators continued efforts to locate the missing infant.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The police said the investigation is aimed at determining the full extent of the syndicate’s activities, locating the missing baby and bringing all culpable persons to justice.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the Mowe Division officers for their prompt response and operational effectiveness.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating human trafficking, child exploitation, illegal adoption and other forms of violent crime across the state.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information about suspicious activities to assist security agencies in preventing human trafficking and protecting vulnerable persons.
