Tinubu Condemns Niger Mass Abduction, Orders Immediate Rescue Operation

President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the mass abduction of worshippers in Niger State and ordered an immediate, coordinated rescue operation to secure the safe release of the victims.

The directive was disclosed on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement issued by the State House.

Tinubu described those responsible for the attack as “enemies of peace and enemies of humanity,” warning that the perpetrators would not be allowed to escape justice.

He also expressed deep sympathy to the families of those who were killed during the incident.

The President assured the affected families that the Federal Government would continue working until the abducted victims were safely reunited with their loved ones.

He directed the Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and other relevant security and intelligence agencies to immediately launch a coordinated rescue operation and intensify efforts to locate the victims and apprehend those behind the attack.

Tinubu further assured Nigerians that the government would not be intimidated by terrorism or allow criminal elements to undermine national security.

“Terror will not cow Nigeria. We will defend our people, protect our communities, and uphold the sanctity of human life,” the President stated.

The attack reportedly occurred at the Kpenya Mosque in Gidan-Zana, Kpenya village, Dekara District, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, where terrorists invaded during Jumat prayers.

According to reports, the attackers stormed the mosque at about 2 p.m. and began abducting worshippers. Women, children and elderly residents were among those reportedly taken away, while some residents fled into nearby forests to escape the attackers.

The attackers also reportedly abducted the village head of Ka’ada, who had only recently been released after spending time in captivity.

The 90-year-old father of the District Head of Dekar was also said to have been among those abducted.

The President expressed solidarity with the people of Niger State and assured the state government of the Federal Government’s support, including security reinforcement, relief and recovery assistance.

Tinubu’s directive comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity and mass abductions in parts of the country, with security agencies under increasing pressure to strengthen intelligence gathering, protect vulnerable communities and ensure the safe return of kidnapped Nigerians.

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to protecting citizens and bringing those responsible for acts of terrorism and mass abduction to justice.
