The Edo State Government has dismissed reports claiming that Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been banned from entering the state.
The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kassim Afegbua, made the clarification in a statement issued on Friday, describing the report as false and insisting that the government had no involvement in any decision to restrict the singer from visiting Edo.
Afegbua said the state government completely dissociated itself from the alleged ban, describing the claim as an attempt by individuals seeking to create unnecessary tension between Davido and the Edo State Government.
According to him, Edo State remains open to everyone, irrespective of their political beliefs, affiliations, personal relationships or social standing. He stressed that the government had no reason to prevent Davido from visiting the state.
The commissioner further stated that if Davido wishes to visit Edo or perform in the state in the future, the government would be willing to collaborate with him and provide the necessary support for his event.
Afegbua also described Davido as one of Edo State’s illustrious sons, pointing out that the singer’s mother is from the state.
He said the government would be delighted to welcome and celebrate the internationally recognised musician whenever he decides to visit.
The commissioner explained that the issues surrounding Davido and political events in Osun State following the recent governorship election were strictly political and should not be interpreted as a personal disagreement involving the Edo State Government.
He praised Davido for his achievements in the Nigerian music industry and described him as one of the country’s prominent global ambassadors.
According to Afegbua, the singer has continued to promote Nigeria internationally while building bridges across different social and political divides.
The Edo government official also commended Davido’s commitment and success in the entertainment industry, saying the state was proud of his accomplishments and looked forward to seeing him receive further international recognition, including a Grammy award.
The clarification came after an online publication reported that the Edo State Government had banned Davido from entering the state.
The government has now urged the public to disregard the report, stressing that the singer remains free to visit Edo whenever he wishes.
