Nigerian music executive and record producer Michael Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has praised Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr, saying the young artiste has had a major impact on his life and career.
The founder of Mavin Records made the remarks on Thursday while responding to a fan on X who commended him for discovering Ayra Starr and helping to develop her career.
Don Jazzy, however, noted that the influence has not been one-sided, explaining that Ayra Starr has also changed his own life in significant ways.
According to him, he remains grateful for the day he came across the singer’s Instagram freestyle, which eventually led to her signing with Mavin Records.
“She has most definitely changed my own life too. I bless the day I was shown her Instagram freestyle o. And she has been nothing but a dream Starrgirl,” he wrote.
Don Jazzy discovered Ayra Starr through her social media freestyles before signing her to Mavin Records. Since then, she has grown into one of Nigeria’s most prominent Afrobeats artistes, building a strong international following through her music, performances and collaborations.
Ayra Starr recently released her third studio album, Starrgirl, on August 14.
The 16-track project features several major Nigerian and international artistes, including Wizkid, Rema, ZAYN, Leon Thomas, kwn, Theodora and Danny Ocean.
Wizkid appears on the track “Gimme Dat”, while Rema features on “Who’s Dat Girl”.
The album represents another major step in Ayra Starr’s rapidly developing career and further demonstrates her growing appeal beyond Nigeria.
Don Jazzy’s latest comments highlight the close professional relationship between the music executive and the artiste whose career he helped launch.
While he played a key role in introducing Ayra Starr to a wider audience, he now credits the singer with also making a meaningful difference in his own life.
Her continued success has further strengthened Mavin Records’ reputation as a major platform for developing young African musical talent and taking Nigerian artistes to the global stage.
