Police Arrest 10 Suspected Human-Parts Dealers in Oyo, Recover Body Parts

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 people suspected of being involved in the illegal trade of human body parts and recovered suspected human remains and traditional charms during operations in the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Saturday in Ibadan.

According to Ayanlade, the arrests followed months of intelligence gathering, surveillance and investigations by operatives of the command’s monitoring unit.

He said the suspects were apprehended at different locations in the Iseyin and Saki areas of Oyo State.

Police officers subsequently searched their hideouts and recovered several exhibits believed to be human body parts.

The recovered items reportedly included a suspected human heart, human flesh, pieces of a human skull and various charms.

Ayanlade said the recovered exhibits had been secured and would undergo forensic examination as investigators work to establish their origin and determine how they were obtained and what they were intended for.

He added that the suspects were assisting the police with information that could help investigators uncover the wider network behind the alleged activities.

The police spokesman said the command was also making efforts to identify and arrest other suspected members of the alleged syndicate.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Olugbenga, commended the officers involved in the operation, describing their efforts as a result of sustained intelligence-led policing.

The commissioner also assured residents that the command would continue to intensify efforts against criminal activities and protect lives and property across the state.
