Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has cast his ballot in the ongoing Osun State governorship election, urging security agencies to remain vigilant against alleged attempts to disrupt the exercise.
Adeleke voted at Polling Unit 9, Ward 2, Arogunde/Sagba, Ede, on Saturday after arriving at the polling station early for accreditation.
He voted amid a heavy security presence and a large crowd of supporters and residents who gathered at the polling unit.
Speaking with journalists after casting his ballot, the governor said the election was progressing peacefully and expressed hope that the situation would remain the same across the state.
“It is going well, and I hope it continues like that,” Adeleke said.
The governor, however, raised concerns over an alleged attempt to interfere with voting in some parts of the state.
According to him, a police officer allegedly brought in from Port Harcourt was among those he believed could be deployed to disrupt voting in his community.
“There is one police officer who was brought from Port Harcourt to come and disrupt my town so that people will not vote,” he alleged.
Adeleke called on voters to remain alert and urged the Commissioner of Police overseeing the election to investigate the allegation and take appropriate action.
“I want everyone to be on the lookout. I want the Commissioner of Police in charge of the election to take note and do the needful.”
The governor also alleged that there were plans to deviate from the established result collation procedure, which ordinarily moves from the polling unit to the ward and then the local government level.
“I also have it on authority that they don’t want to follow the normal procedure of going through the unit to ward and local government, and that is not acceptable,” he said.
Despite the allegations, Adeleke expressed confidence that he would emerge victorious at the end of the election.
“I know by the special grace of God, I am winning this election,” he added.
