Israeli Forces Conduct Major Blasts Near Historic Beaufort Castle

Israeli forces carried out a series of powerful explosions near Lebanon’s historic Beaufort Castle, a UNESCO-listed site, as military operations continued in southern Lebanon despite a US-brokered ceasefire agreement.

In a statement on Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz said the military destroyed a tunnel network in the Beaufort area that they claimed was linked to Hezbollah operations.

Israeli authorities said about 700 tonnes of explosives were used during the operation.

Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that the explosions occurred around midnight and were strong enough to shatter windows in nearby homes, with shockwaves felt across several communities in southern Lebanon.

The agency also reported that Israeli forces demolished caves and houses in parts of the Tyre district and carried out additional explosions in nearby towns and villages.

The developments come despite a US-backed agreement signed by Israel and Lebanon in June aimed at easing tensions along the border.

According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, ongoing Israeli military operations have resulted in thousands of casualties, while tensions in the region remain high.
